The University of Kentucky Professional Education Unit is fully accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE is now CAEP… the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation). As such, each UK educator preparation program must conform to the standards and expectations of CAEP. In addition, each program must be approved for operation in Kentucky by the Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB).

It should be noted that The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) is primarily focused on UNIT accreditation, while the EPSB is primarily focused on PROGRAM approval. However, because all educator preparation institutions in Kentucky are now required to be CAEP accredited, the EPSB program approval expectations are that each educator preparation program is built and maintained using CAEP standards and accreditation requirements.

All of UK’s educator preparation programs, either new or currently active programs, are developed and maintained in accordance with standardized procedures that are described and supported on these web pages. The Office of Program Documentation, Accountability, and Compliance is charged with the responsibility to monitor program compliance with CAEP and EPSB rules, procedures and standards.
